Luxury Beach Club Launches Bali's First Dedicated Rescue Helicopter
FINNS Beach Club has acquired and deployed what officials are calling Bali's first dedicated search and rescue helicopter equipped with hoist capability, marking a significant expansion in the island's emergency response infrastructure. The move represents a substantial private-sector commitment to improving safety for both residents and visitors across the destination.
Operating from a helipad base at Benoa Harbor in South Bali, the helicopter is being operated by the Sayap Garuda Indah Group (SGI), an established aviation services company with 23 years of operational experience across Indonesia. Unlike typical helicopter services that generate revenue through tourism flights and corporate charters, this aircraft will be dedicated exclusively to search-and-rescue missions.
A Private Solution to Public Safety Needs
The initiative underscores a growing trend in Southeast Asia where private businesses are stepping in to address gaps in public emergency infrastructure. Bali, despite its status as one of the world's premier tourist destinations, has historically relied on limited search-and-rescue resources for maritime emergencies, mountain rescues, and medical evacuations across its mountainous terrain and coastal waters.
The helicopter operation "reinforces FINNS' long-term commitment to community safety" and has been developed in close collaboration with Indonesia's national search and rescue agency BASARNAS and Nusa Medica for medical assistance.
SGI currently operates a fleet including BELL 412, BELL 212, and Bell 407 helicopters and has extensive experience in medical evacuations, equipment hoisting, and emergency response operations. The new SAR helicopter will operate independently from SGI's commercial aviation divisions to ensure availability for emergency calls.
Funding the High-Cost Operation
Recognizing that maintaining a dedicated rescue helicopter requires substantial ongoing investment, FINS Beach Club has launched internal fundraising initiatives to support operational costs. The centerpiece is a special FINNS x SGI fundraising menu available across the venue, with 100% of proceeds dedicated to the search-and-rescue helicopter project.
The menu features purpose-led guest experiences and signature drinks designed to appeal to the venue's affluent clientele while generating sustainable revenue for emergency operations. This creative funding approach demonstrates how tourism businesses can monetize their social responsibility commitments.
Strengthening Emergency Response in Bali
The partnership reflects coordination between private enterprise, government agencies, and specialized service providers. BASARNAS, Indonesia's national search-and-rescue agency, has been involved in development of the operation, ensuring alignment with national emergency response protocols and standards.
For Bali's tourism industry and local communities, the addition of a dedicated rescue helicopter could prove transformative. The island's geography—with steep volcanic terrain, numerous water activities, and substantial tourist traffic—has historically presented challenges for emergency response times in remote areas.
