China Eastern Airlines Launches Thrice-Weekly Service to Bali from Beijing

China Eastern Airlines has commenced direct flights between Beijing-Daxing and Bali, marking a significant expansion of air connectivity between China and Indonesia's premier tourism destination. The carrier began operating the new route on Saturday, July 11, 2026, with flights scheduled three times weekly.

The inaugural flight MU889 departed Beijing-Daxing Airport at 3:43 pm local time on Saturday, July 12, carrying 287 passengers aboard an Airbus A330 aircraft. The flight touched down at Bali's Ngurah Rai International Airport at 10:55 pm, with the return service MU890 departing early the following morning with an identical passenger load.

Strategic Route Strengthens China-Bali Tourism Ties

The new service will operate on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays from Beijing, with return flights scheduled for Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays. This schedule optimizes connectivity for both leisure and business travelers between China's capital and the Indonesian island.

"We are very enthusiastic about welcoming the opening of this new route connecting the capital of China with Bali. We are optimistic that this new route will further strengthen air connectivity with China, as well as further enhance and strengthen Bali's competitiveness as a major world tourism destination," said Nugroho Jati, General Manager of I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport.

According to Kompas, Nugroho emphasized that mainland Chinese tourists represent the second-largest visitor group to Bali after Australians. In the first half of 2026 alone, approximately 297,000 mainland Chinese tourists visited the island, underscoring the importance of enhanced air connectivity.

Expanding China's Gateway Cities to Bali

Beijing-Daxing now becomes the fifth Chinese city to offer direct flights to Bali, joining established routes from Guangzhou, Shanghai, Xiamen, and Chengdu. This expansion reflects Bali's growing importance in China's outbound tourism market and the airline's confidence in demand for the route.

The new service brings Bali's total international route network to 42 destinations, operated by 43 airlines. This robust connectivity positions the island strategically within Southeast Asia's aviation landscape, particularly for travelers from China's major metropolitan centers.

Airport authorities anticipate the direct Beijing service will facilitate easier access for Chinese travelers and stimulate increased visitor numbers from the world's most populous nation.
