Three Organizations Driving Women's Empowerment Across Bali

Three grassroots organizations are making a tangible difference in the lives of vulnerable women across Bali, offering education, skills training, and safe spaces for those facing difficult circumstances. From vocational programs to community sanctuaries, these initiatives are reshaping opportunities for thousands of women seeking independence and dignity.

Bali WISE: From Hospitality to Digital Skills

Since 2007, Bali WISE (Women of Indonesia Skills Education), operated by the ROLE Foundation, has transformed the lives of over 2,000 women from marginalized backgrounds. The organization runs an intensive six-month immersion program designed to equip young women aged 17 to 24 with marketable skills and work experience.

The model is comprehensive: participants receive accommodation, living stipends, uniforms, medical care, and educational materials during a three-month training phase at the center in Nusa Dua. Each cohort welcomes up to 35 students, who then transition into three-month paid internships with partner businesses. The results speak for themselves—between 50 and 60 percent of graduates secure job offers before formally completing the program.

What sets Bali WISE apart is its evolution. While hospitality training remains the program's cornerstone, the organization introduced digital marketing and graphic design options in 2023—a strategic pivot responding to tourism industry volatility caused by natural disasters and the pandemic. Alumni now work across diverse sectors, from Budapest Airport to major Middle East airlines, demonstrating the program's global impact.

PKP Community Centre: Building Sanctuary and Second Chances

In the serene highlands of Banjar Selasih, Gianyar, the PKP Community Centre (Pusat Kegiatan Perempuan) operates as a sanctuary for women and children escaping abuse, trauma, and social marginalization. Founded in 2013 by Ibu Sari—herself a survivor of divorce, prolonged family separation, and severe depression—the center transforms personal tragedy into collective healing.

PKP's mission centers on providing safety, dignity, and pathways to recovery for women facing domestic violence, poverty, and social stigma. By grounding its work in lived experience, the organization brings authentic understanding to the challenges its members face.

The center stands as proof that healing and empowerment can flourish when built on genuine compassion and survivor-led leadership.

Supporting the Movement

These organizations rely on a combination of grants, business sponsorships, and individual support. Both Bali WISE and PKP welcome donations, corporate partnerships, and volunteers committed to advancing women's empowerment across the island.

For those inspired to contribute—whether through financial sponsorship, internship opportunities, or volunteer work—reaching out directly to these organizations offers a meaningful way to participate in transforming women's lives in Bali.
