ROW for R.O.L.E 5.0 Paddles Toward Change in Bali
On Saturday, 25 April 2026, Bali's premier water sports charity event returned for its fifth consecutive year, raising nearly 850 million rupiah to support education and women's empowerment initiatives across Indonesia. ROW for R.O.L.E 5.0 brought together 88 paddlers for a scenic 13-kilometre canoe journey from Sanur Beach to Nusa Dua, organized by three Hyatt properties in collaboration with the R.O.L.E Foundation.
The event successfully mobilized IDR 846,299,154 (approximately USD 48,995) through paddler registrations and supporting donations, continuing a five-year legacy of transforming lives through sports and philanthropy.
Paddling with Purpose: The R.O.L.E Foundation Mission
The acronym R.O.L.E—Restoring Opportunities through Learning and Empowerment—encapsulates the foundation's core commitment to breaking poverty cycles for young Indonesian women. According to organizers, hundreds of thousands of talented young women across Indonesia lack access to vocational training and employment pathways despite possessing the skills and motivation to build independent futures.
"Over 4 billion Rupiah has been raised in the past four years, transforming the lives of nearly 400 young women. Together, we are rewriting stories of struggle into stories of strength, independence, and opportunity."
The flagship program, Bali WISE, brings selected young women from schools throughout Indonesia to Bali for six months of intensive hospitality and tourism training. Participants receive comprehensive support including accommodation, meals, living allowances, English language education, and practical skills development designed to unlock employment opportunities in Bali's competitive hospitality sector.
Growing Impact in Bali's Tourism Hub
Hyatt's involvement across three properties—Grand Hyatt Bali, Hyatt Regency Bali, and Andaz Bali—reflects the hospitality industry's recognition that sustainable tourism requires investing in local workforce development. By channeling funds into women's vocational training, the initiative addresses both skills gaps and gender inequality simultaneously.
- Nearly 400 young women trained through Bali WISE program since 2022
- 88 paddlers participated across single, double, and paddleboard divisions
- 13-kilometre scenic route from Sanur to Nusa Dua
Expanding Beyond the Water
ROW for R.O.L.E 5.0 expanded its fundraising strategy this year by launching an online auction featuring luxury resort experiences, dining packages at renowned Bali restaurants, and wellness treatments. This digital component allows international supporters and those unable to participate in the paddling event to contribute to the cause, broadening the initiative's reach beyond Bali's coastline.
The diversified fundraising approach reflects growing recognition among Bali's tourism sector that corporate social responsibility initiatives resonate with both guests and employees seeking meaningful engagement with local communities.
A Movement Taking Root
With over 4 billion rupiah accumulated across five years, ROW for R.O.L.E has established itself as one of Bali's most successful charity-sports hybrids. The event's consistency and growing support suggest that combining competitive athletics with development goals creates powerful motivation for donors and participants alike.
For young women graduating from Bali WISE, the program represents more than employment training—it offers economic independence, dignity, and the platform to become role models in their communities. Each paddler crossing the Sanur-to-Nusa Dua finish line represents not just a personal achievement, but a commitment to reshaping Indonesia's future.
