Beachfront Tandoori Bar & Grill Opens at Karma Kandara

New Beachfront Indian Restaurant Opens at Karma Kandara with Chef's Royal Heritage

Bali's dining scene has welcomed a new culinary player with the opening of Tandoori Bar & Grill at the exclusive Karma Kandara resort in Ungasan. The restaurant brings authentic Indian flavors to a relaxed beachfront setting, operating as a flexible all-day venue that transforms from casual lunch spot to an evening showcase of traditional tandoor cooking.

From Street Food to Tandoor-Grilled Specialties

The restaurant's dual identity reflects a thoughtful approach to Indian dining in Bali. During daylight hours, from 11am to 5pm, Tandoori Bar & Grill emphasizes Indian street food classics—Pav Bhaji, Vada Pav, and Paneer Chilli—designed for relaxed daytime grazing. This strategy caters to Bali's large community of international visitors and residents seeking lighter midday meals without commitment.

As evening approaches, the kitchen pivots to its full repertoire. Clay ovens and tandoors become the focal point, with signature dishes including Mushroom Tikka, Lamb Seekh Kebab, and Chicken Tikka Kandhari served with pomegranate-yoghurt sauce. The menu balances traditional meat-centric dishes—Butter Chicken and slow-cooked Laal Maas mutton curry—with substantial vegetarian options like smoky Baingan Bharta and Palak Paneer.

"His cooking remains grounded in the traditions of his homeland while reflecting the places he has travelled"

Chef Jeevraj Singh Brings Palace Kitchen Pedigree

Leading the kitchen is Chef Jeevraj Singh, whose culinary journey reflects India's diverse regional traditions. Singh's career began in his grandmother's kitchen in Rajasthan before progressing through royal palace kitchens and international venues, including positions across the Karma hotel group's properties in India and Germany. This background brings authentic depth to dishes that many Bali restaurants treat superficially.

The menu extends beyond entrées to include freshly baked breads, fragrant biryani, traditional raitas, and Indian desserts—elements often overlooked in resort dining but essential to the complete Indian meal experience.

Access and Membership Details

The restaurant operates within Karma Kandara's private members' club framework. Access requires complimentary Karma Club Guest Membership registration through the Karma Subito App, which also bundles dining, beverage, and spa benefits. This membership model reflects the broader Balinese resort strategy of creating exclusive yet accessible hospitality experiences.

Located at Jalan Villa Kandara in Banjar Wijaya Kusuma, Ungasan, the restaurant is open daily from 11am to 10pm. Reservations can be made through the contact number +62 361 848 2200, with menu updates and specials available via Instagram at @tandoori.bar.and.grill.
