Ukrainian Man Held for Ransom by Criminal Syndicate in Bali
A disturbing video circulating on social media platform X (formerly Twitter) has revealed that a Ukrainian man is being held captive in Bali by members of an international criminal network demanding a $10 million ransom.
Igor Komarovsky, 28, the son of alleged Ukrainian organized crime figure Oleksandr "Narik" Petrovsky, appears in the footage posted on February 21, 2026, visibly beaten and pleading with his family to pay the ransom. The video was shared by an account claiming to represent Lebanese businessman Mario Nawfal and has since garnered international media attention from Ukrainian news outlets Beritabali.com and Rakurs, as well as Russian newspaper Izvestia.
Details of the Alleged Kidnapping
According to the video's narration, Komarovsky's abductors claim his family stole $10 million obtained through illegal online scam call centers that primarily target Russian nationals. The kidnappers allege the funds originated from fraudulent extortion operations run by the Petrovsky organization.
The video suggests Komarovsky has already revealed details of his father's criminal extortion activities to his captors. Nawfal stated in accompanying posts that Komarovsky is "beyond the reach of police or Petrovsky's mafia associates," indicating the severity of his situation.
Prior to his abduction, Komarovsky was vacationing in Bali with his brother Ermak Petrovsky. During the kidnapping incident, Ermak reportedly managed to escape, though details of how remain unclear.
Growing Concerns Over International Crime Networks
The incident raises serious concerns about Bali's vulnerability to organized international crime syndicates. The island's popularity with tourists and wealthy individuals from Eastern Europe and Russia has increasingly attracted criminal networks exploiting the region's relative accessibility and distance from law enforcement agencies in their home countries.
The case highlights how transnational criminal organizations are willing to operate brazenly across jurisdictions, using social media to publicize their activities and maximize pressure on victims' families.
Experts note that Bali's status as a tourist destination has made it an attractive base for criminal operations targeting diaspora communities and their families. The public nature of this ransom demand—posted on international social media—represents an escalation in tactics by criminal networks operating in Indonesia.
Investigation Status
Details about police response or investigative efforts by Indonesian authorities remain limited. The circumstances surrounding how the kidnappers tracked and located Komarovsky in Bali have not been disclosed.
