Bali to Host Red Bull Cliff Diving World Series in May 2026
Bali Set to Host Prestigious Red Bull Cliff Diving Championship in May 2026
Bali will make history as Indonesia's first host of the Red Bull Cliff Diving World Series, welcoming the world's most elite cliff divers to two spectacular natural venues from May 20-23, 2026. The announcement, confirmed by Indonesia's State News Agency Antara, marks a significant milestone for the island's international sporting calendar and positions Bali alongside other exotic global destinations that have hosted this extreme water sports championship.
Two Iconic Locations Chosen for Competition
Red Bull organizers have selected two breathtaking venues that showcase Bali's dramatic natural landscapes. The Kroya Waterfall in Buleleng Regency will host the opening rounds, while the famous T-Rex cliff at Kelingking Beach on Nusa Penida will feature additional competitions. Both locations offer the sheer cliff faces and pristine waters required for this high-adrenaline sport.
The selection reflects Bali's appeal to international event organizers seeking destinations that combine world-class natural features with established tourism infrastructure. "Bali's stunning panoramas and rich cultural heritage will offer competitors an experience unequaled by any previous cliff diving championship," said seven-time world champion Rhiannan Iffland.
Elite Athletes Taking On Extreme Heights
Twenty-four champion divers from Australia, the United States, Canada, France, Romania, and Mexico will compete across multiple rounds. The competition will feature legendary cliff diver Gary Hunt and Constantin Popovici, who holds the highest-scoring record in competition history.
Male athletes will plunge from 27 meters—approximately three times higher than Olympic diving platforms—while female competitors will dive from 21-meter heights. Athletes reach speeds of roughly 85 kilometers per hour during their descent.
These extreme heights and speeds underscore the danger and skill required in professional cliff diving, a sport that has gained international recognition through Red Bull's championship series.
Why Bali? Tourism and Cultural Appeal
Red Bull's decision to bring the championship to Bali reflects the island's dual attractions: world-renowned natural beauty and a vibrant cultural scene. Organizers specifically cited Bali's status as a premier international tourist destination alongside its unique Balinese heritage as deciding factors.
The event will draw significant attention from extreme sports enthusiasts and tourism media worldwide, potentially boosting Bali's profile during the important May travel season when many international visitors plan Southeast Asian holidays.
Local Support and Infrastructure
The championship will benefit from operational support by local Bali tourism authorities and Indonesian naval personnel, ensuring the event meets international safety and logistical standards. This collaborative approach between Red Bull, local government, and Indonesian maritime agencies demonstrates Bali's readiness to host world-class international competitions.
