One year after controversial demolition work cleared over 40 structures from Bali's most celebrated surf destination, officials have confirmed that redevelopment of Bingin Beach will commence this summer. The Badung Regency Government announced that construction is expected to begin between July and August 2026, following the completion of the tender bidding process.

The Bali Provincial Government initiated demolition at Bingin Beach in Uluwatu on July 21, 2025, citing spatial planning violations and unauthorized building construction. The crackdown resulted in the removal of dozens of beachfront establishments—many of them small restaurants, warungs, and tourist accommodations that had characterized the beach's laid-back charm for decades.

The decision sparked significant backlash from both local communities and the international surf community, with critics arguing that Bingin's informal character was integral to its appeal as one of Asia's premier surfing locations.

"The process is underway. The tender winner has been named, and we are now entering the objection period. This means work will begin between July and August," said I Nyoman Karyasa, Head of the Badung Public Works and Spatial Planning Agency (PUPR).

Transformation Into a "Formal Tourist Destination"
