Nyepi Day 2026: What Every Tourist in Bali Needs to Know

The Island Goes Silent
Nyepi, Bali's Day of Silence, is one of the most unique cultural events in the world. For 24 hours, the entire island shuts down. No flights, empty streets, dimmed lights.
Rules for Tourists
- Stay in your hotel — you cannot leave the property
- No beach access — beaches are patrolled by pecalang
- Keep lights low
- No loud music or parties
Fast Boat Crossings Suspended
All fast boat services between Bali, the Gili Islands, and Lombok are suspended. Schedule departures the day before or after.
The Night Before: Ogoh-Ogoh Parades
Giant papier-mache demon statues are carried through the streets to gamelan music — one of Bali's most spectacular cultural events.
