Two Men Shot in Early Morning Altercation at Canggu Nightspot

A shooting incident at the Shady Pig Bar in Canggu has left two men injured and sparked a manhunt for the alleged gunman in the early hours of Friday, July 17, 2026. The incident occurred at approximately 2:50 am at the popular nightspot located on Jalan Pantai Berawa in North Kuta, according to reporting from Bali Discovery.

How the Confrontation Unfolded

According to Badung police precinct chief AKBP Joseph Edward Purba, the shooting erupted following a dispute between an unknown assailant identified as Ahmad and a 25-year-old Chinese national with the initials EA. Ahmad had arrived at the venue around midnight with four companions, occupying a reserved sofa area where the group spent several hours drinking and socializing with other patrons.

The situation escalated around 2:00 am when an argument broke out near the DJ booth between Ahmad's group and the Chinese guest. Within minutes, Ahmad produced a firearm and opened fire.

Security Guard Caught in the Crossfire

A 32-year-old security guard identified as IMYN attempted to intervene and separate the combatants, positioning himself between the quarreling parties. The gunman fired a single shot that passed through the guard's thigh before striking the Chinese guest. Both men sustained injuries in the shooting.

Ahmad and his companions quickly fled the bar after the shooting, with police suggesting the alleged gunman may have immediately left Bali following the incident.

Investigation Underway

Officers from both the Badung and North Kuta police precincts immediately cordoned off the Shady Pig Bar as a crime scene. Investigators are currently reviewing CCTV footage from the venue and surrounding areas to identify the shooter and trace his movements after the incident.

Physical evidence collected from the scene includes blood-stained clothing and a spent bullet. Medical reports from both victims are also being examined as part of the ongoing investigation. Police spokesperson Aiptu Ni Nyoman Au Inastuti confirmed that the case remains under active investigation.

Police officials have indicated that Ahmad is the subject of an extensive manhunt. The early indicators suggest the alleged gunman may have fled the island shortly after the shooting, complicating efforts to apprehend him.
