Vivaldi's Gloria Lights Up Bali in Charity Concert
Vivaldi's Gloria to Light Up Denpasar Cathedral for Charity Concert
Bali's classical music scene is set to receive a luminous boost when the Catholic Cathedral of the Holy Spirit in Denpasar hosts a special charity concert featuring Antonio Vivaldi's Gloria in D Major on Monday, 27 July 2026. The evening promises to blend world-class string artistry with choral performances from ensembles spanning from local Bali groups to international visitors from South Korea and the United States.
Supporting Education Through Music
The concert carries a dual purpose: raising funds for the educational needs of children in the Cathedral Community while simultaneously celebrating Reverend Father Yosef Casius Wora's 38 years of priestly ordination. Father Wora, a native of Ruteng in western Flores, served as Vicar General of the Diocese of Denpasar from 2006 until 2025, bringing extensive pastoral experience across the Catholic regions of Indonesia's eastern islands.
"A magical musical evening of classical string artistry and choral performance" organized through cooperation between Komunitas Peduli Pendidikan Anak (KPPA) and the Bali International Choir Festival.
An International Musical Lineup
Beginning at 7:30 pm, the evening will open with a classical string ensemble performance of Vivaldi's Baroque masterpiece, known for its jubilant energy and intricate vocal-instrumental interplay. Following the opening work, attendees will experience performances from multiple choral groups representing Bali's diverse musical community:
- Roh Kudus Cathedral Parish Choir and Youth Choir
- Bali Choral Academy
- Bali Music Academy
- Komunitas Inkulturasi Minahasa–Bali, celebrating the region's Minahasan cultural heritage
- Terroir Youth Choir from South Korea
- Azusa Pacific University Chamber Singers from the United States
Soprano soloist Keke Adiba and alto Yustina Maria Owa will provide featured vocal performances, while American conductor Dr. Gene Peterson will lead the ensembles, bringing international expertise to the Bandung Choral Society's production.
Father Wora's Journey in Service
The honoree brings a remarkable ecclesiastical resume. Following theological training at Ledalero Seminary in Flores, Father Wora spent a transformative year studying in Rome from 1999 to 2000. He has served Catholic parishes across eastern Indonesia, including postings in Sumbawa Besar, Palasari, and Denpasar, where he guided the diocese through critical administrative periods as both Diocesan Administrator and Vicar General.
